Disney’s Aladdin in Kuching: Spectacular Musical by Tunku Putra School 27-30 August

KUCHING, 14 August 2015 – Families will be able to take a magical carpet ride together as Tunku Putra School performs Disney’s much-loved musical Aladdin.

Dazzling costumes, exotic Arabian nights backdrops and show-stopping musical numbers are set to delight local audiences when the talented students of Tunku Putra School take to the stage for four not-to-be-missed shows from 27-30 August 2015.

Children of all ages will be captivated by the story, the songs, the staging and the spectacle of Aladdin.

In Agrabah, City of Enchantment, Aladdin, a good hearted street urchin, falls in love with beautiful Princess Jasmine. Meanwhile her father insists she urgently finds a suitable husband.

With a little help from a magic lamp and a wacky Genie, Aladdin sets himself up to thwart the evil Jafar and win Jasmine’s hand in marriage.

So goes the charming story of Aladdin while among the well-known musical numbers are the Genie’s “Friend Like Me” and Aladdin and Jasmine’s magic carpet ride to the world-wide hit “A Whole New World”.

Says Tunku Putra School Principal Susan Holmes, “We are delighted to present ‘Aladdin’ and ‘share this whole new world with you,’ the world of Drama which has become an integral part of our curriculum.”

Ms Holmes also noted that Drama acted as a facilitator for realising the philosophy of the school to help children learn academically, socially, emotionally and physically.

“Every student is a unique individual who can be helped to achieve their potential with support and encouragement in a nurturing educational environment.

“By letting their shining qualities come through, we want our students to be the best they can be,” she said.

Echoing these thoughts, Tunku Putra School Chairman Datuk Syed Ahmad Alwee Alsree said drama is seen as an important means of stimulating creativity in problem solving and developing creative leaders.

“Such performing arts allow students to communicate with and understand others in new ways and provide training in the very practical aspects of communication so necessary in today’s increasingly information-centred world.

“Students who have participated in Dramatic activities are more likely to be confident public speakers, more persuasive in their communications”, Datuk said.

Datuk noted that Tunku Putra School continues to develop and enhance the educational experience that it offers to the students aspiring to consistently improve and raise standards of achievement.

“As we witness the production of Aladdin, and share in a spectacle of dramatic excellence, let us appreciate all the special qualities that have been developed, strengthened and enriched in the children. These will provide life-long learning contexts, further empowering them to face the challenges of the 21st century,” he added.

Members of the public are invited to attend performances of Aladdin on 27, 28, 29 and 30 August 2015.

Aladdin will be staged at the school’s hall which is part of its impressive state-of-the-art campus at Jalan Stadium, Petra Jaya in Kuching.

Tunku Putra School caters to children from kindergarten to secondary age in both national and international curriculums.
