CMS Raises RM6,333.60 For Sarawak Cheshire Home

Sunday, 5 July 2009, Kuching – When we embarked on the CSR programme ‘CMS Doing Good’ in early 2007, we did not place the element of fun as an important result. As it turns out, each time our employee volunteer teams gather to ‘Do Good’ for the community either by setting up a stall to sell food for a charity home or by running in a mini-marathon to raise funds or by building a house on the outskirts of Kuching, the outing is always filled with fun and laughter. The familiar scenario occurred again today at the Sarawak Cheshire Home where four CMS stalls set up by CMS Infra Trading, CMS Property Development, Group Procurement together with Group Legal, and the ladies of Group Finance, raised RM6,333.60 for charity amidst lots of fun and laughter.

Well done to CMS Infra Trading which sold out in two hours, before 9.15 am! Their clever strategy to sell in bulk to two major customers was indeed smart. CMS Infra Trading raised RM693.10.

Well done to CMS Property whose strategy was all about location, location, location. By ensuring their stall was strategically located at the Main Entrance, their sales were brisk from the word ‘go’. Their line-up of various food items sold by a line-up of team members in yellow ‘CMS Doing Good’ t-shirts was a nice welcome sight. CMS Property raised RM2,619.00 for the Home from pre-sales of RM300.00 and sales on the day of RM2,319.00.

Well done to Group Procurement and Group Legal which went so far as to get their own ‘Corn Man’ to sell their corn! Team member Andy Siong painstakingly made a giant corn-on-the-cob prop with apple cardboard packaging. Coupled with the ever-smiling Chong Wan Siang who walked around holding the prop, CMS’ corn man was a sight to see! This team raised RM1,588.00 from pre-sales of RM918.00 and sales on the day of RM670.00.

And well done to the ladies of Group Finance. Missing this year was the loud voice and aggressive sales persona of Syed Hizam (who was away travelling). Instead, it was a soft sell by the ladies to a continuous stream of patrons which resulted in their local cakes and fruit literally selling like hot cakes! Group Finance raised RM1,433.00 from pre-sales RM326.00 and sales on the day of RM1,107.00.

At the end of day, whilst the Sarawak Cheshire Home has benefitted by RM6,333.60 raised by the tireless and unselfish efforts of sales and pre-sales of food items by our CMS employee volunteers, CMS Group on the whole has benefitted in a much larger way. The smiles, laughter and fun enjoyed with office colleagues is priceless. It’s a fact – ‘CMS Doing Good’ does good for both the Community and CMS Group.
